By training your staff how to conduct manual handling safely you are complying with your legal requirements. Back injuries caused by incorrect manual handling techniques are one of the most frequent causes of workers compensation claims. This is not an instructors’ course. It is of 3 hours duration. \nWho should attend?\nAll staff engaged in manual handling activities during their working day \nCourse Objectives\nOn completion of this course participants will be able to: \n\nLift and handle loads safely\nRecognise a load which is too heavy or awkward\n\nCourse Programme\n\nDangers of careless and unskilled methods\nPrinciples of levers and laws of motion\nAnatomy of the spine and muscular system\nHow the body is harmed through incorrect handling techniques\nHow to handle loads safely\nLifting to and from ground level\nLifting to and from a height\nPushing\nPulling\nLifting (bags\, sacks\, barrels\, where appropriate)\nOther organisation specific lifting tasks\nCompetence testing\n\nMethods of Training: This course combines lecture methods with “hands-on” discussions on different types of materials. \nPre-Course Requirements: Information will be provided on request. \nAssessment/Certification: Each participant will be assessed on their practical manual handling techniques. A completed manual handling assessment form for each participant will be supplied to the participant. \nNote: The person must assess all loads\, areas and tasks to perform in the work place\, the manual handling course cannot foresee all poor ergonomic conditions and every load to move\, lift\, push or pull will be different.
